Includovate’s mission of raising the profile and capabilities of researchers worldwide is not only a defining value of the organisation, it’s a philosophy that we very much apply internally as well. Our Research team has created valuable initiatives to ensure that their staff have the tools and support they need to succeed in every step of their Includovate journey and beyond.
“We’ve developed monthly Learning Sessions that are open to all Includovate researchers, not just our Research (Node) Leaders,” said Mariette Correa, Includovate’s Qualitative Research Director. “In these sessions, we provide our researchers with important information to support their work and their well-being both within the company and their careers overall.”
Includovate’s Research Team is currently comprised of eight Principle Researchers and approximately 20 other research staff members. The team is committed to providing world class analysis across Includovate’s seven primary research areas (Nodes): Inclusive Childhoods and Adolescence; Inclusive Evaluation; Inclusive Justice; Inclusive Ecosystems, Agriculture and Markets; Inclusive Migration; Disability Inclusion; and Inclusive Governance and Social Policy.
“Our Research Nodes play an important role in giving space to our members to discuss work stress,” said Sujata Ganguly, South Asia Gender Empowerment and Social Inclusion (GESI) Lead. “Members can also discuss issues during Node meetings or organise 1-on-1 sessions with Node leads.”
This year, the Research team has held Learning Sessions on CV tailoring for project submissions, the importance of utilising preferred pronouns, and mentoring and well-being sessions. The team has also held Learning Sessions on how to code data using NVivo – a qualitative data analysis computer software package – becoming better public speakers, and building up one’s capacity as well as the capacity of others.
The mentoring session provided helpful tips on the importance of creating a positive and safe space for staff and building trust. Attendees of the CV tailoring session held in September of this year received valuable information on how to present key data and their core competencies – such as languages spoken, countries they’ve worked in, and domains of expertise – on their CVs as succinctly and prominently as possible in keeping with the needs of busy project proposal screeners.
The Research team will conduct future Learning Sessions on how to properly conduct literature reviews, LGBTQI and intersex awareness, inclusive evaluation, disability terminology and key disability models, and proper data collection.“We believe that providing this ongoing support to our researchers will help them excel at Includovate and beyond,” said Correa. “We are pleased to provide this support and bring Includovate’s core value of supporting researchers around the globe to our own internal operations.”
