Job Summary:

The Principal Researcher (Inclusive Evaluation and Learning) represents and leads the delivery of Includovate’s service offerings. It must support participatory methods, decolonising evaluation, and inclusive approaches. The PR (Inclusive Evaluation and learning) is expected to drive forward new and exciting research, collaborating with other internal and external researchers relevant to the projects, with potential opportunities to publish papers and present findings at conferences and workshops. The Principal Researcher (Inclusive Evaluation and learning) will lead Includovate’s node on Inclusive Evaluation and learning, position Includovate as a research and thought leader in this thematic area, strengthen the capacities of junior researchers and provide a supportive and active environment for personal and professional development. The PR Evaluation will also help to implement and report on Includovate’s impact measurement framework and should have experience in leading organisations through participatory learning processes.

The Principal Researcher (Inclusive Evaluation and learning) is expected to increase Includovate’s revenue by identifying potential research for development projects, developing proposals for new work, and building relationships with existing clients for repeat business. We are looking for a motivated, ambitious self-starter who is an innovator who loves autonomy, leading, and developing capacity.

Responsibilities and Duties:

Research & Intellectual Leadership:

  • Develops internal knowledge products on inclusive evaluation and learning for publication in Includovate’s marketing channels.
  •  Presents research findings verbally or in writing and in an audience-conscious and engaging way.
  • Review deliverables to ensure the high quality of research output in a way that develops the capacity of other researchers.
  • Participates in Includovate’s Institutional Review Board to review the methods proposed for research to ensure their ethicality.
  • Develops the inclusive evaluation research node through webinars, learning events, blogs, position papers, thought series, etc

Project Management & Coordination :

  • Assists project managers to plan and deliver multiple projects to various clients on time, quality and budget.
  • Provides project leadership to balance client needs with team welfare effectively.
  • Identifies at-risk projects and/or deliverables and troubleshoots corrective courses of action.
  • Negotiates potential and actual changes in project scope with relevant clients to ensure effective project delivery and profitability.
  • Supervise and organise the work of research or project teams to ensure clear roles, effective working methods, performance standards, and research quality.
  • Oversee the creation and management of budgets by project managers.

Business development and fundraising :

  • Leverages experience and professional network to identify new commercial opportunities.
  • Builds relationships with clients and potential clients
  • Writes methodologies for proposals (RFPs) and reviews final proposals created by the business development team
  • Attends client interviews and prepares teams for client interviews.

Communication, Influence & Networking :

  • Maintains frequent client communication, making regular client touchpoints to ensure client satisfaction
  • Wins additional work with new and existing clients by drafting proposals, concept notes and budgets.

Continuous Learning:

  • Includovate wants to be a learning organisation. In addition to delivering client work, we would like you to run regular internal learning events to help us reflect and learn about new topics, our strengths and weaknesses, comparative advantage, etc.
  • We teach our staff and clients different evaluation, learning, and facilitation techniques (e.g., liberating structures, outcome harvesting, rubrics).

Organisational duties More details: 

  • Understand a systems change approach and be able to teach it to others and design evaluations accordingly.
  • Provides constructive feedback, delivers internal training and workshops, and writes joint publications to support and build the capacity of other researchers.
  • Provide intellectual leadership internally on relevant issues and areas of work related to the node.
  • Participate in organisation-wide projects, strategy development, initiatives, and working groups, as well as peer reviews.
  • Act as a coach or a mentor to colleagues, particularly researchers.

  • A large part of this role is leading the Najahna project work in Jordan, where Includovate is the research, learning, and evaluation partner.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • A PhD is preferred or at least 12 years of experience leading research teams and evaluations in an international development context
  • Must have led an evaluation for UN entity
  • Experience using participatory methods, decolonising evaluation and inclusive approaches
  • At least four publications in peer-reviewed journals
  • Strong organisational critical thinking skills
  • Strong presentation, research, and verbal and written communication.
  • Fluency in English. Fluency in other languages will also be considered favourably.
  • Experience using research software like EndNote or Mendeley, NVivo, SPSS or STATA, Tableau or Microsoft Power BI.
  • Identifying with a marginalised group (e.g. LGBTI, disabled)/ having a lived experience of exclusion will be a distinct advantage

Work conditions: 

  • Work Location:  Remote working from JORDAN with excellent flexibility, successful candidates need to have a computer/ laptop with high-speed internet connection.
  • Employment Type: This This is a twenty-four-month contractual full-time position with a very high probability of getting extended based on performance and finances.
  • Work hours: Flexible working arrangements apply, with some work falling outside core business hours to accommodate time zone differences.
  •  Remuneration: We offer competitive remuneration depending on the candidate’s base location and role suitability.
